The UConn Extension Master Gardener Program is excited to offer our annual seed distribution initiative, providing free seeds to support gardening projects across Connecticut. Whether you’re a beginner looking to start your first garden or an experienced gardener expanding your space, our program aims to help everyone grow their green thumb while promoting sustainable practices and local food production. Each year, the UConn Extension Master Gardener Program partners with Ocean State Job Lot to distribute free seed packets to community groups, non-profits, schools, and municipal groups. We are pleased to continue offering this service to community organizations and groups. We reserve the right to substitute seed packets due to availability, and orders are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. You must select the location where you will pick up your seed order. You will be contacted by someone from that location regarding pickup dates and times.
Why Participate?
Gardening has numerous benefits, from providing fresh, nutritious food to supporting pollinators and improving mental well-being. Our seed distribution program is part of UConn Extension's commitment to fostering community engagement, environmental stewardship, and healthier lifestyles. By participating, you contribute to Connecticut's vibrant gardening community and take steps toward creating greener spaces in your backyard or neighborhood.
What Seeds Are Available?
Each year, our seed inventory includes a variety of vegetables, herbs, flowers, and native plants. Availability depends on donations and seasonal planning, but our goal is to offer options that suit diverse growing conditions and gardening preferences. Seeds are distributed while supplies last, so we encourage early participation!
Who Can Receive Seeds?
The seed distribution program is open to:
- Schools and community organizations with gardening or educational projects
- Nonprofits working on food security, pollinator habitat creation, or environmental initiatives
